Carson Online
The Carson Online program is a public, online alternative to the traditional classroom and serves students in grades 6-12 in Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Mineral, and Storey counties. We offer full and part-time options and the online program is brought to you by Carson City School District.
You are eligible for the FULL-TIME program if you:
- Are age of 19 or younger AND
- Reside in Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Mineral, or Storey county
- Have successfully completed the 5th grade
- Are willing to take all of your classes online
- Agree to participate in all standardized testing required by Carson City School District and the State of Nevada
- Are age of 19 or younger AND
- Reside within Carson City School District
- Have successfully completed the 5th grade
- Are willing to pay $120 per semester course
FAQs
Who will issue my diploma?
You will receive a diploma from the school in which you are ultimately enrolled. For full-time students, the school issuing the diploma will be either Pioneer High School or Carson City High School.
Does it matter where I live?
Yes, if you are interested in taking all of your classes online as a full-time student, you must live in one of the following counties: Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Mineral, or Storey county. If you are interested in part-time enrollment, you must live within Carson City School District.
Can I graduate from Carson Online?
You may earn all credits for graduation from the Carson Online program. The corresponding school in which you will ultimately be enrolled will issue the diploma and hold a graduation ceremony.
Do I have an opportunity to participate in sports and activities?
Once you apply for Carson Online you will be given the choice between enrollment in Pioneer High School or Carson High School. Students enrolled in Pioneer High School are able to participate in school sponsored activities. Students who choose Carson High School can participate in both school activities and sports.
As a student enrolled in Carson Online, am I required to be on-site for any reason?
Yes. While this is a completely virtual program, you are required to come to the school location for a pre-enrollment orientation, mid-term exams, and final exams.
In how many courses can I be enrolled?
Full-time students enrolled in Carson Online are required to take 12 courses (6 courses in the fall and 6 in the spring.) Part-time students (in-district only) may take 1 or 2 courses in addition to their regular school schedule.
How much does the Carson Online program cost?
If you want to participate as a full-time student, the Carson Online program is of no cost to you. If you live in Carson City School District and want to remain in your local school while taking one or two courses online, you would fall under part-time enrollment. Part-time enrollment costs $120 per semester course.
